WHAT IS FIRE STOPPING?
FIRE STOPPING BIRMINGHAM | NATIONWIDE
Fire Stopping is used in buildings to prevent fire and smoke from quickly passing through multiple compartments or gaps.
These compartments are sealed which will inhibit the spread of the fire. Without fire stopping both lateral and vertical fire spread can quickly cover the building.
It is important that fire stopping is installed by trained professionals which is something that FireSnuff® can guarantee.
We will ensure that the Fire Stopping we install will come with up to 4 hours fire protection.
WHEN IS FIRE STOPPING REQUIRED?
Fire Stopping is a form of passive fire protection meaning it will keep you protected from the fire giving you time to evacuate. It is always required, especially in commercial buildings with a lot of people.
The 2005 edition of the NEC (Article 300.21 Spread of Fire or Products of Combustion) states: “Openings around electrical penetrations through fire-resistant rated walls, partitions, floors or ceilings shall be fire stopped using approved methods to maintain the fire-resistance rating.”
WHY IS FIRE STOPPING IMPORTANT?
It’s important as it keeps people safe, especially in commercial buildings where a lot of people come and go.
If a space is not correctly sealed it can lead to the fire spreading quickly. With fire stopping you can at least inhibit the spread of the fire for up to 4 hours, which gives people plenty of time to evacuate and for the fire services to arrive.
